EcochG (Electrocochleography)

If one inner ear has a build up of fluid (called endolymphatic hydrops or Meniere's) the function of hearing and balance in that ear can be affected. An EcochG is a test using auditory clicks heard in the ear to evoke a signal in the inner ear which can be measured by electrodes on the surface of the skin at the forehead, behind the ears and the top of the head. It can assess the signals in the inner ear and helps determine whether the function of the inner ear is affected by a build up of fluid in that inner ear and thus causing symptoms.

A patient undertaking an EcochG lies on a bed with surface electrodes on the skin and wears a headphone; and relaxes whilst the test is performed by our audiologist.
