Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is a condition of the inner ear. Crystals in the inner ear called otoconia become loose and enter one or more of the semicircular canals causing inappropriate activation of the inner ear balance mechanism (vertigo) with positional changes of the head. BPPV can be associated with other medical conditions of the inner ear. BPPV causes specific eye movements during the Hallpike and Roll tests which can be seen. We use special video goggles which help us diagnose BPPV.
