This test  assessment of the vestibulo-ocular reflex. In the first place special goggles are worn and you will be asked to track with your eyes moving targets on a visual display whilst sitting. This measures your ability to track moving targets whilst sitting. Secondly warm and cool air will flow into the ear canal while you are laying down. Your eye movments in response are measured.  This measures each ear's response to slight fluid movement in the inner ear from slight temperature change, and is called a caloric response. Each ear is tested to assess the function of one of the semicircular canals of the inner ear and one of the balance nerves (vestibular nerves).
